35th Wedding Anniversary

Happy 35th Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Early Wednesday morning, August 5, mom and I waited for dad to leave the house for work so we could sneak off to the airport to pick up Christen and Hannah. Dad didn't know that they were coming. When we finally arrived to pick them up they were waiting on the curb with bags in hand. It was so humid that Christen's camera was fogged over and this was the best picture we could get. Welcome to Houston =)

We spent the morning relaxing and resting and letting the kids have some time to play together. Andrew and Hannah fought like brother and sister the whole time we were together. I think they both had fun fighting with each other.
We planned to surprise dad at work by bringing Christen and Hannah down on Wednesday for lunch. He was so happy and surprised to see them. We were all glad that we didn't have to keep the secret any longer.
We went out to lunch at dad's favorite lunch spot, Long John Silver's. It was a great beginning to a wonderful time of being together.
Early Saturday morning Mark, Albert, Kalli and Susan (Kalli's mom) arrived in Houston. That evening we planned a good old Texas bar-b-que complete with brisket, potato salad, and beans.

Saturday night we went to an Astro's game and had a great time.

Sunday morning Christen, Albert and I sang "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)" and gave a short testimony of how it is only by the grace of God that our parents had been together for 35 years of marriage. Only through the power of God can a marriage last. What a great testimony their lives have left and a great example for us to follow.

Monday morning we headed out for a day at the beach. None of us kids had been back to Galveston since Hurricane Ike came through last year and did much damage to the island. We were all amazed at how much damage had been done and how many things still needed to be repaired even after a year.
This picture is of Albert, Christen, and Hannah jumping in the waves.
We also took our traditional ferry ride over to Bolivar Peninsula. There were lots of dolphins jumping the waves that day.

On Tuesday we spent the day at NASA. I always enjoy going through all the exhibits and tours. It was a fun day for all.

Right behind my parents house is a very nice park. Mark enjoyed running the trails while we walked and played with the kids. The kids enjoyed the playground as well as the sprinkler.

At the end of the week we took a walk to the park. It was a very hot day but we still had fun.

I am so thankful for the time we had together as a family. We do wish that James, Daniel and Jer had been able to join us as well but we were thrilled to have Christen and Hannah. This was the first time we had been together since Andrew's first birthday so it was great to be together. Praise the Lord for allowing us this time. And James, if you read this, thanks SOOOO much for allowing Christen and Hannah to come and spend some time with us. We appreciate it so much.
Christen and Hannah leave tonight to fly back to Brazil. Pray for their safety as they travel through the night.
