I would like to ask everyone to pray for my cousin, Ben Newell. About 2 years ago he had a heart transplant. In December he had to go through open heart surgery to repair 2 valves. One was replaced with a mechanical value. He has had I think 2 more surgeries to repair leaks in the values among other things. Today his wife wrote that he had surgery yesterday to remove blood that had collected around his lungs. Blood had coagulated enough that it could not be drained but it was removed in the OR. They also "scuffed up" the walls of the pocket in which it had collected so they would heal together eliminating that space. He also had bad rhythms this morning and needed the paddles to correct it. Meaghan (Ben's wife) had a conference with the doctor to get a better understanding of what is going on and she said that the short answer is that Ben needs a new heart, maybe new kidneys, and right now he is too sick to get them. They say maybe new kidneys because kidneys are very resilient and can come back after a long time. A functioning (new) heart could do a lot to make his kidneys work.(He is also have dialysis everyday) At this point though the trauma of the transplants would be more then the benefit. Ben is in a tough spot. Besides the big issues they are constantly putting out the fires from the domino effect of systems failing. the fluid collection is because of the leak around his valve, he is having problems with red blood destruction due to the leak which effects his liver and spleen. The kidneys not working cause fluid to build up. Sometimes the treatment of one thing makes another worse. All of these cause him pain, nausea, labored breathing, and keeps him from being able to eat and move which is what he needs to do in order to get better. Please pray that his kidney function will return and that he will be able to eat and breath comfortably so he can be listed for a new heart. All of the things he has gone through have always had very difficult and long recoveries so we are asking God to preform a HUGE miracle. Ben and Meaghan need our prayers and I beg of you to lift them up. Please pray for a miracle.
